Advice-Only® Education

Advice-Only® education is accessible to consumers through scheduled seminars. Events follow our Classroom Rule.

Each class is organized around a specified topic and taught so participants can hear the reasoning, see planning concepts applied, and ask educational questions.

Our seminars provide basic financial education and are different from personalized financial advice. No financial products, insurance policies, investment-management services, or referral arrangements are promoted or sold during class.

The Classroom Rule

From 2014 through 2019, Quincy Hall, CFP®, our founder, taught community retirement-planning courses throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

The rule was simple:
No companies, no products allowed in class.

The purpose was to create a setting where financial concepts, calculations, and tradeoffs could be explored before anyone had to make an implementation decision.
That classroom boundary later helped shape a central idea of the Advice-Only™ Methodology and in his 2019 book Advice Only: A Retirement Planning Methodology & Handbook. In it, he describes how financial education and advice should be capable of standing on their own, without depending on the sale of a financial product, the management of assets, or what someone chooses to do next.

We aim to carry that principle forward.

How We Teach

A reliable process must exist to ensure an objective and trustworthy financial planning experience. Our method gives clients just that. A way to obtain objective advice and a consistent experience designed to be separate from implementation-linked incentives.

Our courses are free from the influence of any financial institutions or products. By denying these influences, we ensure an objective environment from start to finish. By removing outside influences, we align our interests with our users’.

Experience is everything. The best insights into financial planning come from those who actually do plans for a living. Our licensed professionals offer a deep understanding of and a unique perspective on financial planning concepts. You benefit from their experience working directly with lots of clients.

We design our app’s content to help users expand their knowledge and allow them to solidify their views on personal finance. Use the educational material whether or not you ever become a planning client.

When a public class has a fee, the price is stated upfront. Participating in an educational program does not require purchasing a financial product or hiring the firm for personalized planning.

We are committed to accessibility, so we offer high-quality, affordable financial planning courses designed for all, regardless of financial experience or assets.

We design much of the material for ongoing use alongside formal financial planning conversations. The course itself becomes a trusted resource when working alone or with a professional following our methodology.
